What Is a Learner’s Licence in Victoria?
A Learner’s Licence (Learner Permit or “Ls”) allows you to legally practise driving on Victorian roads under supervision. It is the first and most important step in your journey towards becoming a safe, confident, and independent driver.
Eligibility Requirements
Must be at least 16 years old to apply.
Passport, birth certificate, or visa documents.
Must be a resident of Victoria.
Pass a basic eyesight test at VicRoads.

Prepare for the Test
Knowledge Test: 32 questions (min 28 correct).
Signs Test: 10 questions (100% correct required).
Book Your Appointment
Book online or call VicRoads. Popular locations: Carlton, Sunshine, Dandenong, Ringwood.
Attend & Pass
Bring ID, pay the fee, pass vision & knowledge tests to get your permit on the day.
What Happens Next?
You can begin supervised driving with a fully licensed driver (held for 3+ years).
